POSSIBLE NEUTRINOLESS DECAY MODES OF THE MUON

An phenomenological theory is given of possible twophoton" neutrinoless decay processes- mu /sup plus or minus / yields e/sup plus or minus / + gamma + gamma ; mu /sup -/+ nucleus yields mu /sup -/ + gamma (virtual Coulomb) + nucleus yields e/sup gamma + nucleus; and mu /sup -/ + nucleus yields mu /sup -/ + gamma (virtual Coulomb) + gamma (virtual Coulomb) + nucleus yields e/sup -/ + nucleus. It is found that the decay, mu / sup -/ + nucleus yields e/sup -/ + gamma + nucleus, is the most probable of the three under consideration. (auth)
