Neutron diffusion in a homogeneous slab of material that is unbounded in two dimensions is studied. Processes that the neutrons can undergo include fission, capture, and elastic and inelastic scattering, and all these processes are assumed to be isotropic. The neutron sources are assumed to be distributed in a plane parallel to the slab faces, and the source plane may be either external or internal to the slab, Attention is given to the number of collisions, the number of transmitted and returning neutrons, the number of j/sup th/ collisions, and other parameters involved in the diffusion.
