HOW TO SELECT GAMMA SHIELDING DOORS

Shield doors for hot cells, gamma irradiation cells, xray machines, and accelerators are selected according to basic features and requirements of the facilities. The choice of door type depends on user plans for cell arrange ment, type of work anticipated, and traffic access as well as door characteristics such as methods of support and motion, size, material, auxiliary shielding, drive mechanism, and space needed. Shield doors must provide both full shielding and ready access at the lowest cost consistent with operating criteria such as minimum and maximum speeds of opening and closing, ease of decontamination, and simplicity of maintenance.
