ELECTRON SPIN RESONANCE IN $gamma$-IRRADIATED TRIGLYCINE SULFATE

Journal Article · · Helvetica Physica Acta (Switzerland)

A study was made to determine the nature of the paramagnetic centers in irradiated triglycine sulfate, to investigate their possible connection with the permanent bias, and to use the spectra to study molecular motion above and below the Curie temperature. The crystals were irradiated at room temperature at gamma energies of 1 Mev to a dose of 106 rad. The spectra, determined in a superheterodyne spectrometer operating at 9 kmc/sec, were centered on the free spin g value of 2.00 and showed considerable hyperfine structure which was strongly orientation dependent. Typical spectra taken at the orientation in the ac plane corresponding to the maximum splitting of the proton bonded to the radical'' carbon atom are illustrated. (J.S.R.)
