The highlights of seven papers presented at the Materials Symposium held at the Air Force's Aeronautical Systems Division, Phoenix, Arizona, September, 1961, are summarized. The summaries contain information on uses and properties of borides, beryllides, carbides, nitrides, silicides, and refractory oxides; effects of radiation and high temperature on soft magnetic materials; properties of inorganic and organic coatings in controlling the temperature of space vehicles; mechanical properties and welding of molybdenum, niobium, tantalum, and tungsten alloys; development of ablation materials; and fabrication of expandable structures.
