DIFFUSION OF CARBON IN THORIUM

Journal Article · · Trans. Am. Soc. Metals
OSTI ID:4829547
The rate of diffusion of carbon in thorium was determined by measuring the fractional saturation of thorium cylinders at various times. The diffusivity at 1000 deg C was 7.4 x 10-/sup 9/cm//sec,at 1100 deg C was 2.8 x 10 cm/sup 2// sec, and at 1200 deg C was 5.7 x 10/sup -8/ cm/sup 2//sec. The activation energy for diffusion was 38 kcal per mole. Evidence of a change in the diffusivity with concentration was observed. (auth)
