Insurance against atomic hazards, giving adequate financial protection to persons and goods, introduces novel consideration. The evaluation of the hazard, the number of people insured, and the establishment of causality between radiation exposure and damage are problems peculiar to nuclear energy. The insurance market in the European countries and the United States and the possibility of government subsidy are discussed. (J.S.R.)
