UPPER LIMIT OF THE HALF LIFE OF THE 351-KEV EXCITED LEVEL OF Pr$sup 14$$sup 3$ (in French)

Journal Article · · Compt. rend.

A recent study of the decay of Ce/sup 143/ led to the conclusion that the 294-kev gamma radiation has a predominantly E/sub 2/ raultipolarity, however, not excluding the possibility of a M/sub 1/ mixture. In order to better define the multipolar character of this radiation, the period of the 351-kev level of Pr/sup 143/ was measured. The beta - gamma delayed coincidences were measured with a time-amplitude converter. It was concluded that the 351-kev level has an upper limit T/sub 1/2/, < 10/sup -10/ sec. On the basis of the variation in the theoretical and experimental values for the conversion coefficients and the K/L ratio, no evaluation could be made on the multipolarlty. However, the upper limit of the 351-kev level seems to favor a strongly predominant M/sup 1/ polarity in agreement with the g/sub 9/2, of the shell model. (J.S.R.)
