FEATURES PECULIAR TO THE ERYTHROPOIESIS IN IRRADIATED GRAVID ANIMALS (in Russian)

Peculiarities of erythropoiesis were studied in irradiated gravid rats by labeled iron (Fe/sup 59/). It was found that during pregnancy the accumulation of Fe/sup 59/ in the blood is more intensive (experiments with non- irradiated rats). In irradiated gravid animals the activity of Fe/sup 59/ in the blood decreases not as sharply as in the irradiated non-gravid animals. This testifies to the fact that functional inhibition of the bone marrow caused by radiation is not as pronounced in the gravid rats as in the non-gravid ones. Labeled iron passes through the placenta from the mother to the fetus. In the progeny of irradiated rats there was a lower content of Fe/sup 59/ in the blood than in that of nonirradiated animals.
