THE CONTRIBUTION OF CALDER HALL AND CHAPELCROSS TO THE CIVIL PROGRAMME

Journal Article · · Nuclear Power
OSTI ID:4829007

The reactors at Calder Hall and Chapelcross are used for a range of large-scale experiments relating directly to factors affecting the design, commissioning, and fuel element performance of the civil stations. Thus the experimental work carried out in these reactors is projected to the civil reactor problems wherever possible. The organization of this experimental work is discussed along with the problems involved. Other topics discussed are: commissioning measurements for civil reactors; reactor physics, stability, and control; fuel element testing and burst cartridge detection procedures; and irradiation effects on materials.
