HIGH-POWER MICROWAVE SOURCE USES PARALLEL KLYSTRONS AND FLYWHEEL

Journal Article · · Electronics (U.S.)
OSTI ID:4828762

A microwave power amplifier design enabling single or parallel operation to 4 klystrons at C band and feeding of a modified ring resonator to provide up to 100 Mw output is described. Time delays in the modulator circuit and phase shifters in the r-f circuit synchronize beam and r-f pulses to permit parallel operation of the klystrons. The r-f output circuit combines the output of each klystron in a highpower hybrid. Monitoring and protective circuits are illustrated. Pulses are fed into the microwave flywheel from the source in phase with the energy in the ring. The proposed low-pressure arc-discharge gaseous- shutter output switch is made as a part of a waveguide section. (L.N.N.)
