MARC--A MULTIGROUP MONTE CARLO PROGRAM FOR THE CALCULATION OF CAPTURE PROBABILITIES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4828622
MARC-1 is a Monte Carlo program designed to estimate thermal absorption rates, thermal fluxes, and thermal fission rates in rectangular subregions of a two-dimensional rectangular lattice, based on a multi-thermal group model. An unusual feature of MARC-1 is its ability to solve problems based on either the ordinary multigroup transport equations or on the adjoint multigroup equations. The use of the adjoint model makes it possible to estimate the absorption rate in a very small region, or even at a point. with great accuracy. In the adjoint mode, the equations are transformed, making use of the theory of dual importance sampling to reduce the variance. (auth)
