THE CONSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE OF THE JAERI NEUTRON CRYSTAL SPECTROMETER (in Japanese)
The JAERI Crystal Spectrometer is similar to the high resolution spectrometer in the Brookhaven National Laboratory. The spectrometer was constructed to be used in combination with the reactor JRR-2, a CP-5 type reactor of 10 Mw which is now under construction. Some preliminary experiments and the measurement of the pile neutron spectrum at the experimental beam hole were performed at the JRR-1 reactor (Water Boiler tyne of 50 kw), using a LiF single crystal of 8 cm x 8 cm x 1 cm. The full width at the half maximum intensity was 24 minutes of arc. The construction of the spectrometer, the detail procedures of the instrumental alignment, and the performance characteristics using a LiF crystal are described. The relative reflectivity of the LiF crystal in the various lattice planes for the slow neutron and the counting efficiency of the detector were calculated. Furthermore, a spectrum measurement of the neutrons at an experimental hole of the reactor JRR-1 and the transmission measurement of Cd and In near the lowest neutron resonances were carried out.
