INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTIVE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITIES FOR A FINNED COOLANT TUBE LITHIUM HYDRIDE SPECIMEN

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4827413
The effective thermal conductivity of cast lithium hydride was evaluated as a function of temperature as influeneed by nonhomogeneous (cracked) distribution, various gases in voids, finned surfaces, thermal cycling, and partial adhesion to container. It was found that the over-all effective conductivity of lithium hydride and its container can be raised to 6.l and 3.0 Btu/hr-ft--F at 250 and 900 deg F, respectively by using finned surfaces and helium. The use of iinned surfaces alone will raise the over-all effective conductivity to 3.3 and 2.6 Btu/hr-ft- F at 250 and 900 deg F, respectively. (P. C.H.)
