ENERGY LEVELS OF B$sup 10$. II. THE Be$sup 9$(p,$gamma$) REACTION
Accurate energy measurement of the y ray establishes that a transition of approximately 2.4 Mev energy observed at the E/sub p/ = 1086 kev resonance in the Be/sup 9/(p, gamma )B/sup 10/ reaction takes place between the 7.56-Mev state and the upper member of the doublet of levels at 5.11 and 5.16 Mev in B/sup 10/. A survey of the gamma rays excited in the Be/sup 9/(p, gamma ) reaction between E/sub p/ = 800 and 1130 kev is made using a three crystal pair spectrometer and reveals no unpredicted resonance structure. The gamma width of the 7.56-Mev state in B/sup 10/ is measured and a result (2J + l) GAMMA gamma = (6.6 plus or minus 1.5) ev obtained. The relevance of these and other measurements to the state of knowledge concerning levels in B/sup 10/ between 5 and 8 Mev is discussed, in pariicular to the problem of deciding which of the known levels is the isobaric spin analog of the 3.37-Mev J/sup pi / = 2+, T = 1 state in Be/sup 10/.
