The use of tri-n-octylamine-cellulose in chemical separations

Journal Article · · Journal of Chromatography
A method is described for the preparation of tri-n-octylamine-cellulose (TOAC). A column of this substance behaves like an anionic resin column and permits separation of many chemical elements. The following separations are given as examples: Fe - Co- Ni, U- Th- La, U- Th- Zr, La- Zr and Zr-Hf. The exchange capacity was evaluated and found to be three to four times lower than that of the common anionic resins. Advantages are indicated. TOAC was compared with Whatman's diethylaminoethyl-cellulose DEAE, as regards retention of uranium from a very acid solution.
