Methanol supply problems in Europe as US prices attract product

Journal Article · · Chemical Week

Healthy U.S. demand for methanol has caused supply problems in Europe, with high prices in the U.S. attracting Russian and Libyan product traditionally bound for Europe. Last week, U.S. spot prices broke the $0.60/gallon barrier. In response, deals in Europe have been made at about DM380/m.t. fob for early May-up DM40/m.t. from the previous month. But prices are still too low to attract imports-even in Brazil and Southeast Asia there are substantially higher prices than in Europe.
