On Magnetic Field Power Lines; O SILOVYKH LINIYAKH MAGNITNOGO POLYA

An attempt was made to find power line distributions in order to evaluate plasma motion in a given magnetic field. An approximation was developed for a vortex-free magnetic field with a specified scalar potential H/sub o/z + 4 (x,y,z), where H/sub o/ is a constant and the function 4(x,y,z) satisfies the Laplace equation with periodicity along z, with a 2 pi period, and with integral /sup 2 pi 4(x,y,z)dz = 0. Various power line possibilities are analyzed. (R.V.J.)
