BS>A rapid method for separating cerium from strontium and yttrium based on anion exchange is described. Cerium was quantitatively absorbed from 8M HNO/ sub 3/ solutions on a column of Dowex resin containing a small amount of lead dioxide. Strontium and yttrium were removed by washing with 8M HNO/sub 3/. Cerium was eluted with 4M HCl or dilute HNO/sub 3/. Decontamination factors exceeded 10/sup 3/ and cerium recoveries were quantitative. Distribution coefficients were determined for a wide range of HNO/sub 3/ concentrations. (auth)
