ANOMALOUS /cap alpha/-EMITTERS IN THE Po-Ra REGION (in Russian)
Emitters of 7- to 12-Mev alpha particles produced by irradiating lead isotopes with accelerated carbon ions are investigated. Within the experimental errors the half lives of alpha emitters with energies of 7.2 plus or minus 0.2 and 8.8 plus or minus 0.2 Mev are the same (25 to 26 sec). It is concluded that the radiation is produced in the decay of the Po/sup 211m/ isomer. The half life of the emitter of 11.7 plus or minus 0.3-Mev alpha particles is 47 plus or minus 10 sec. The yields of the indicated emitters as a function of ion energy and nature of the target are measured. It is suggested that the 11.7-Mev radiation is caused by decay of a hitherto unknown Rn/sup 214/ nucleus in the isomer state. Alpha decay of this nucleus is anomalously forbidden. The forbiddenness coefficient is ~10/sup 14/. (auth)
