Design criteria for a land-based prototype of the MGCR are discussed. It was ascertained that the BeO-moderated helium-cooled reactor had the most attractive possibilities. Power rating, cycle conditions, moderator, fuel, coolant, maneuvering requirements, core design, pressure vessel, control rods, shielding, turbine machinery, other propulsion system equipment, and auxiliary system equipment are described.
