A method is described for carrying out the reaction H/sub 2/O + HDS in equilibrium HDO + H/sub 2/S in a dual-temperature cascade system. The method consists of dividing water withdrawn from the enriching column of each stage except the last into two portions, one being fed to the enriching column and the other to the impoverishing column of the next succeeding stage. The H/sub 2/S is circulated in closed cycle through each stage. The advantage of this arrangement is the elimination of operation duplications and consequent reduction in the volume of contact apparatus. (D.L.C.)
