REMOVAL OF RUTHENIUM AND CESIUM

A method is given for removing radioactive Ru and Cs from gases. The method comprises flowing the gases in contact with a metal oxide and a refractory silicate which react with Ru and Cs, respectively, to form thermally stable compounds. The metal oxide is one of the oxides of Fe, Ni, Cr, Co, and Ti. The reaction is carried out in a reactor at 400 to 1000 deg C with the reagents as packing. (D.L.C.)
