OSTI ID:4822335
A process is given for the dissolution of a material containing uranium in hexavalent and lower valent oxidation states to produce a carbonate solution thereof. The process comprises contacting said material with a carbonate leach solution containing catalytic amounts of the ionic species of metals selected from the group consisting of Co, V, Ti, Mn, and Cu at a temperature of above about 80 deg C, and simultaneously providing an oxidizing agent selected from the group consisting of air, O/sub 2/, and hypochlorite in such solution to oxidize and dissolve the uranium in said material.
