ENGINEERING INVESTIGATIONS OF CENTRIFUGAL CREEP TESTING MACHINE. Summary Report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4822306
Development of a centrifugal creep testing machine is reported which proved to be compact, reliabie, and adaptable for in-pile materials testing. A theory was developed for converting centrifugal creep data into conventional creep values for conditions of uniform outer fiber stress and strain. These conditions were achieved w-tdd specially tapered samples whose creep bonding profile is, circular throughout the gage section. Centrifugal creep tests were conducted with tapered samples of 99.44% pure Al and with 99.80% pure Fe to confirm this theory. It is conclude that cantilever bending creep data from centrifugal tests are convertible into accurate conventional creep-tension values. (J.R.D.)
