MEGAVOLT ELECTRONICS, SUBMILLIMETER WAVE RESEARCH. Annual Report, March 1, 1960-February 28, 1961

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4822277
Research on the Cherenkov radiation approach to the millimeter and sub- millimeter generation problem is described. The method involves a combination of megavolt electronics and physical optics type techniques. A scalar dielectric, Cherenkov coupler operating at 8.31 millimeters wavelength produced 58 milliwatts per centimeters using a drive current of 43 milliamperes. The analysis and preliminary design of Cherenkov experiments in tensor media (ferrites, plasmas) is presented which shows promise of producing upwards of l00 watts with a 10 milliampere beam. Initial numerical analysis for a relativistic electron bunching accelerator (Rebatron) operating above 3 kmc is presented. (auth)
