VALVE CONTROLLED PIPING SYSTEM FOR THE FLOW OF A FLUID FROM THE HEAT SOURCE TO THE HEAT EXCHANGER

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4821697

In order to avoid too high expansions in the gas conduits, it has previously been proposed to connect the reactor the hot gas flows in the inner pipe, while the cold gas flows inside the annular interspace bounded by the two pipes. A valve is described for controlling simultaneously the flow of both the hot and the cold gas. The extremities of the two pipes reach into the casing of the heat exchanger and the said annular interspace is closed at these extremities but communicates with the heat exchanger space at the open extremity of the said inner pipe via lateral openings in this pipe. The inner pipe is further connected with the hot end of the heat exchanger via a lateral branch provided at a point further from the end than the lateral openings. In said inner pipe there slides a collar provided with a median dividing wall, this collar closing progressively and simultaneously by axial or rotary movement the said lateral openings and the entrance of the said lateral branch. This movement is controlled by a rod passing through the outer wall of the heat exchanger. (NPO)
