Superconducting accelerator magnets have shown different excitation ramp rate dependencies in the quench current. One of the main reasons of the above degradation is caused by AC losses, which is easily affected by curing conditions, between strands of the Rutherford cables. Other reasons have not been clarified at this moment. It is possible that the current sharing among strands in steady state or transient state induces the instability of the cable. The authors have measured the minimum quench energies of two types of the Rutherford cables with a Cu matrix and a CuMn barrier inside a Cu sheath. Normal zone propagation speeds in longitudinal and transverse direction also have been measured in conjunction with their interstrand resistances by using voltage taps attached to each strand. These results are discussed with analysis.
