The project, an experimental oil spill and associated analyses, represents the second phase (field portion) of a three phase program. The final (Phase III) goal of the program is the acquisition and deployment of large numbers of drifting buoys in the various Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) planning areas. The trajectories of these buoys can then be used as measures of potential oil spill trajectories, and as test data for trajectory models.
