Bubbling is a key issue that limits the performance of Ag-sheathed Bi{sub 2}Sr{sub 2}CaCu{sub 2}O{sub x} (2212) tapes. Tapes that contained 2212 powder with 110 to 535 ppmw carbon were melt processed in 1 atm O{sub 2}. Bubbling was eliminated by reducing the carbon content in the powder and adding an anneal step at 835{degrees}C prior to melting to the processing schedule. CO{sub 2} is removed from the tape during the 835{degrees}C annealing step.
