IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO FUEL ELEMENT CHARGING DEVICES FOR NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4820808
A grip able to be let down into a reactor channel in order to couple with the handling head of a fuel element is controlled by fluid pressure. The grip is suspended on a hollow cable and moved by a drum drive via this cable. If the operator notices an untimely arrest of the movement of the grip, he can admit a fluid pressure to the grip via the hollow cable and thus cause at least one piston-controlled clamp to protrude and immobilize the grip in the channel. When the said pistons are in the fully advanced position, each of them frees the passage for the pressure fluid to a hydraulic jack that pushes down the lower part of the grip system in order to force a passage through the channel.
