PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION OF METALLIC ELEMENTS IN MOLTEN LITHIUM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4820790
The solubilities of beryllium, chromium, iron, molybdenum, nickel, niobium, silicon, tantalum, titanium, tungsten, vanadium, and zirconium, in molten lithium were investigated. Most of the data covered the temperature range between 482 and 1010 f C (900 to 1850 f F) for periods of 4, 24, and 100 hours. Nickel, silicon, and tungsten underwent complete degradation; beryllium, tantalum, and titanium were markedly soluble at 1010 f C (1850 f F); chromium, niobium, and zirconium showed a moderate increase in solubility with temperature; iron and vanadium showed negative solubility coefficients; molybdenum was only slightly soluble at 1010 f C (1850 f F).
