CAPTURE OF 14.4-MEV NEUTRONS BY PROTONS AND DEUTERONS

Journal Article · · Physical Review (U.S.) Superseded in part by Phys. Rev. A, Phys. Rev. B: Solid State, Phys. Rev. C, and Phys. Rev. D

A counter telescope in connection with a two-dimensional analyzer was used to determine the ratio of the 14.4-Mev neutron capture and elastic scattering cross sections. The cross section for the capture by protons was determined to be 31.6 plus or minus 3.1 mu b. This value is in reasonable agreement with the theoretically predicted value. The cross section for the capture of neutrons by deuterons was found to be 29.4 plus or minus 5.8 mu b. (auth)
