Details of fabrication processes for the HTGR fuel compacts are presented. These compacts consist of Th-U dicarbide particles dispersed in a graphite matrix. A 10 wt% pitch binder is used in a warm pressing process to produce a high density matrix of 95 vol% graphite and 5 vol% C. (J.R.D.)
