MAXIMUM FIGURE OF MERIT OF THERMOELECTRIC MATERIALS

Journal Article · · Advanced Energy Conversion
An estimate of the maximum figure of merit at optimum carrier concentration of a thermoelectric material is shown to be obtainable from the measured values of the Seebeck coefficient, the electrical conductivity, and the thermal conductivity for any extrinsic specimen of the material that is not too greatly overdoped. Effects of minority carriers, irapurity scattering, and multiband conduction on this estimate are discussed. (auth)
