Title: I. TIME VARIATIONS IN COSMIC RAYS. II. CHARACTERISTICS OF EXTENSIVE AIR SHOWERS. Final Progress Report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4819585

Cosmic-ray variations prior to the onset of the Forbush event, during the main phase of the decrease,' and while the intensity was recovering were studied. The different methods and equipment in operation at Chacaltaya for studying the cosmic-ray intensity are described. Unusual phenomena in association with Forbush decreases is discussed, Studies of some exceptional cases of Forbush decreases which showed a difference in onset times are presented. Eleven detectors used to study extensive air showers and their operation at El Aito are descrlbed. The density spectrum of showers detected at El Alto and experimental results concerning the lateral distribution, slze, spectrum, and the celestlal arrival directions of showers are given. (M.C.G.)
