PROCEEDINGS OF THE THIRD LECTURE MEETING ON RESEARCH ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE JAPAN ATOMIC ENERGY RESEARCH INSTITUTE (in Japanese)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4819094
Several research activities of the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute are described. The power of the CP-2 type reactor, JRR-2, was raised to 1000 kw, attaining a total power output of 370,000 kwh by August 1961. A crystal neutron diffractometer was placed in service at the time of the startup of JRR-2, studying the magnetic properties of UFe/sub 2/. Analytical methods based on emission spectroscopy, naass spectroscopy, and extraction absorption spectroscopy were developed, carrying out impurity determinations in natural U fuel, JRR-1 fuel, and in various U alloys. Problems involved in the construction of atomic energy facilities were also discussed. The research activities of the Nuclear Engineering Division, metallurgical studies on nuclear fuels and structural materials, and investigations of heat transfer properties, reactor kinetics, and fuel reprocessing are described.
