Signs of aging in non-corona spark counters of the Rosenblum type (thin anode wires in front of a flat cathode plate) containing CH/sub 4/ and other organic gases as counting gas can only be avoided in counters which are filled with non-soot-forming gases. A report is made on the counting properties of such counters with methane gas filling. The constancy of the counting rate is better than in the case of the counter with a CH/sub 4/ filling; response capacity and discrimination between fast neutrons and gamma rays are not different from those of a counter operated with methane.
