PROCESS FOR PRODUCING AND RECOVERING ORGANIC NUCLEAR REACTOR COOLANT- MODERATORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4818853

A process is outlined for converting damaged polyphenyl reactor coolants with high molecular weight residues into lower molecular weight polyphenyls for reuse as reactor coolants. The process comprises hydrogenating the residues under pressure, at high temperatures, and in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst preferably is A1/sub 2/O/sub 3/ with a minor proportion of CuO, for maximum ring cleavage with mininium ring hydrogenation. (D.L.C.)
