COMBINED METHODS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF FOOD: ANTIBIOTICS, REFRIGERATION, AND RADIATION

Journal Article · · Acta Chimica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae (Hungary)
OSTI ID:4818763
Part 2 of the paper deals with the preservation of food products with cold and ionizing radiation. A short introduction on radiation sources is followed by a discussion of the essential effects of radiation on various food products and the positive effect of cold on the suppression of unwanted accompanying effects is mentioned. The possibility of using ionizing radiation as a preliminary treatment for foods that spoil quickly was investigated. Radiopasteurization is recommended as a form of sanitation for foods prior to cold treatment for preservation. It was found that radiopasteurization does not have the undesirable secondary effects usually caused by radiosterilization. (OID)
