A method for predicting burnout heat flux of forced convective flow of water in a channel is described. The pressure range covered is between atmospheric pressure and 2000 psi, Reynolds number of flow between 7 x 103 and 5 x 105, length to diameter ratio of flow channel between 7 and 160, and various channel geometries. The method calculates the heat flux qA at point A where the non-boiling forced convection heat-transfer characteristic curve might intersect with the natural convection-bulk characteristic curve if the boiling did not occur. A correlation between the ratio of burnout heat flux qBO to heat flux qA and Reynolds number is presented for practical purposes.
