THE ANALYSIS OF THE BASIC FACTORS INVOLVED IN THE PROTECTION OF TUNGSTEN AGAINST OXIDATION. Phase III Progress Report, January 15, 1962-March 31, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4817957
The progress made in a study of the oxidation behavior of liquid Hf-and Zr-Sn alloys is described. HfO/sub 2/ is found to grow parabolically from liquid melts at temperatures as high as 1600 deg C. Some data on the oxidation behavior of Zr melts were obtained. The implications of the oxidation behavior of the Hf melts are discussed in terms of the future development of ultra-high-temperature coatings. Other liquid metal systems are considered. (auth)
