A study was nmade of the effects of radiation processing on the keeping qualities of pears. Both gamma and beta exposure prolonged the ripening process in the fruit. Data are included on the effects of radiation on respiration of the fruit. Methods are described for preparing enzyme extracts and lyophilized material for biochemical studies. (C.H.)
