STATISTICAL FLUCTUATIONS OF NEUTRON MULTIPLICATION (in Hungarian)
Statistical fluctuations of neutron multiplication are defined by the statistical fluctuations of the number of neutrons per fission and of the chain length. Using an assumption of very general character, the generating function of the distribution function describing the statistical behavior of neutrons in multiplying media is determined. Variance versus time is computed for multiplying systems of different reactivity, taking into account the effect of delayed neutrons. For the purpose of experimental investigations of neutron multiplication processes in subcritical systems, the relative variance of the number of neutrons recorded during a given time interval by a neutron detector inserted into the system is computed for the case of a pulsed neutron source. It is assumed that the number of neutrons in a neutron pulse follows a Poisson distribution and that the neutron pulse width may be neglected as compared with detection time. Variance of the number of (prompt and delayed) neutrons produced in fission may be determined from experimental results using the theoretical considerations discussed. (auth)
