HIGH TEMPERATURE ENTHALPY, HEAT CAPACITY, HEAT OF FUSION, AND MELTING POINT OF ZIRCONIUM TETRAFLUORIDE

Thermodynamic properties of zirconium tetrafluoride were measured at 283.9 to 1226 deg K. Premelting is evident, starting between 1114 and 1165 deg K; melting is complete at 1205 deg K. The heat of fusion is 15350 cal/mole. The heat capacity of the liquid is indicated to be about 29 cal/mole deg, but little confidence can be placed in this figure. Enthalpy is given from 283.9 to 1225.8 deg K and ranges from -372.4 to 43407 cal/mole. (N.W.R.)
