LINEAR AND LOGARITHMIC AMPLIFIERS FOR SINGLE AND PLURAL ELECTRODE IONIZATION CHAMBERS

A drift-free circuit is designed for linear or logarithmic amplification of the output signal from a gamma-compensated ionization chamber of the plural electrode type. In this circuit, square-wave excitation potentials are applied to the chamber electrodes on opposite sides of the collector electrode so that the differential signal indicating the neutron fiux level is in the form of a square wave with an amplitude double that of the d-c signal normally obtainable. The signal is then amplified by an a-c amplifier. (D.L.C.)
