THE SEPARATION OF LITHIUM ISOTOPES BY ION EXCHANGE

The single-stage separation factor for the separation of Li/sup 6/ and Li/sup 7/ by distribution between a solution of lithium acetate and the lithium form of a sulfonated styrenedivinylbenzene copolymer (Dowex 50X24) was measured by a method of frontal analysis. The value obtained was 1.0026 plus or minus 0.0003. The comparative merits of elution and displacement chomatography as means of resolving lithium isotopes were discussed. (auth)
