OBSERVATIONS ON EXTENSIVE AIR SHOWERS. IX. AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE Mu-MESON COMPONENT BY MEANS OF TRIGGERED SPARK COUNTERS

Journal Article · · Phil. Mag.
Measurements of the attenuation length, energy spectrum, and distribution of heights of origin of the mu -meson component of air showers containing about 10/sup 7/ particles are described. All measurements are compared with the results of other investigators and with the prediction of various shower theories. The energy spectrum obtained ior mu -mesons deviates strongly irom spectra obtained by other investigators. The distribution of heights of origin is incompatible with existing shower theories. (auth)
