A proportional counter was designed and built for use as part of a gas filled roton recoil neutron spectrometer. The spectrometer consists of two of the counters in tandem, with a system of long metal tubes in between for collimating the protons. The counters are connected in a coincidence arrangement to the recording equipment so that only protons that ionize in both chambers will be counted. Results of testing the counter indicated that it did not have sufficient resolution to be very useful. Some modifications of the present design are suggested. (auth)
