The chief merit of the device consists in the junction of rast-acting scintillation counters with the possibility of the visual observation of the tracks of charged particles. The chambers are useful for studying uncommon decay schemes of unstable elementary particles taking place on an extraneous radiation background. A chamber with a volume of 2500 cm/sup 3/ was prepared and was used for taking photographs of the tracks of cosmic particles. The useful volume of the device was greatly enlarged by employing a single-chamber electron- optical transformer with a 150-mm-diameter photocathode and about l-mm-thick glass walls. The scintillator consisted of about 20,000 filaments placed in al nating, mutually perpendicular layers, separated by black paper for absorbing the scattered light. The apparatus ay be used for the study of ecay of pi /sup +/ mesons according to pi /sup +/ yields pi /sup 0/ + gamma , for the investigation of the rare decay m oes of mu mesons, for the study of deuteron polarization phenomena in the p + p yields d + pi /sup +/ reactions, for the study polarization of proton beams, etc. (TTT)
